It’s Midnight and I’m Blogging

I have decided to post a random personal blog once a week, although I can’t guarantee I’ll remember or always have anything interesting to say…

For tonight, however, I do have a good story. This past Saturday, my dad and I went to see the Alabama Crimson Tide play.

I’m a huge college football fan, as are my parents. My dad has loved the Tide since forever, but he’s only been to one actual game, and an A-Day. This was my third game, thanks to the fact that my Jesse took me to watch them against Virginia Tech.

Anyway, we had a wonderful Saturday. We reached Tuscaloosa early and briefly tailgated with a couple of really nice strangers. The game was amazing. Our opponent was the Colorado State Rams. There’s clearly work to be done, but we won and I enjoyed doing the “Rammer Jammer” cheer.

Dad bought me a collector’s cup and a stuffed elephant, decorated with the Alabama “A,” which is too similar to the one for the Atlanta Braves if you ask me. I took some pictures, none worthy of this blog. Just Google “Bryant-Denny stadium.” It’s magnificent. The atmosphere is electric. And I totally fan-girled on the Walk of Champions. No shame!

As always, I hope this post finds you well. Be ready for better posts in October. Lol. (Although I’m sure there will be more talk of the Crimson Tide before the season is over.)

Birthday Blog: Dirty Thirty

Okay, so my birthday was over two weeks ago. I debated whether or not to even post a blog, since I didn’t have a big extravagant celebration with a band. But then I thought to myself: “This year was better — in a way.”

On my actual birthday, I went to my best friends’ house. Tiffany, who is like a sister to me, fixed me breakfast for dinner. (She makes the best pancakes in the world.) She and her husband, Jerimy, gave me a Ghost tee-shirt, which I quickly changed into before settling back to watch that night’s episode of “Big Brother.”

The next day, I had the joy of seeing my Jesse. She lives in Georgia, and she left work that afternoon and drove straight to my house. My mom fed us tacos, then we watched movies until we fell asleep (The Houses October Built and Anna, for anyone wondering).

Jesse and I had adventures in Huntsville on Saturday, followed by Chinese food and ending our night at Tiffany and Jerimy’s. I was super stoked that three of my best friends were finally meeting, and they got along quite well. We sat outside, talking and catching sight of the occasional meteor from the shower taking place.

Sunday, Jesse and I literally did nothing except indulge in more movies and have a long conversation with my mom.

It may sound like a boring weekend, but for me, it was the perfect way to ring in my 30th year in this world. I missed my brother, and Heather and Chanin…and yes, it was weird not seeing Almost Kings. However, I had music, movies, three of my favorite people, my parents, and delicious food. What else does a girl really need?

Check out my fabulous gifts! The Marilyn Manson sweater was from my parents, the MM necklace was a present to myself, the Ghost shirt was from Tiff and Jerimy, and the other three items were from Jesse ❤

Night Out

This is more or less a review of Shallow Side’s show in Madison last Friday, but it is also a personal post. I’ve been absent from the local music scene for a while and it was absolutely wonderful being back.

Unfortunately, I missed most of the opening act, a band called By All Means. What I did see, however, was really good. If you like hard rock/heavy metal, you might want to check them out.

I have been to four or five Shallow Side shows previously. I always enjoy them. An energetic performance coupled with amazing originals–and some odd but very fun covers–makes for one hell of a night. Shallow Side is better than anyone at getting an audience on its feet, except perhaps Almost Kings.

Friday was no different. The band’s set included originals such as “Stand Up,” “Out of Reach,” and “My Addiction.” I have to admit, though, that one of my favorite parts was their version of Bruno Mars’s “Uptown Funk,” with which they concluded their show. Front man Eric Boatright definitely did the track justice. It was just…magnificent. 🙂

Halloween 2015

I had the most wonderful weekend, guys! Friday night I went to see Lynam (and got my copy of the new EP; keep an eye out for that review). They put on an amazing show, as always, and I shared this moment with David…

He cracks me up. 🙂

Saturday night, I crashed at my best friend’s house. We took her daughter trick-or-treating, then Ivy went to stay with her grandparents and we returned to the house to watch movies, eat junk food, and drink a little. I tried an old fashioned for the first time. It was quite delightful.

Also, I managed to sort out a situation that has been driving me crazy. I’ve reclaimed my happiness. All in all, I’d call this a successful weekend. And now for the pictures.

Lynam, Labor Day, and the Tiny Human

I saw Lynam this past Friday and I couldn’t have been happier. It had been about six months since my last show. They were awesome, as always, and after the show David let me listen to three songs–the final mixes–from the upcoming album, Bombshell. I am now even more excited for October than I already was.

Moving on…

My Labor Day was great, to be honest. I got to spend it with almost all of my favorite people: my brother Rick, my BFF Tiffany, her husband Jerimy, and my adorable niece Ivy. We had a cookout and Rick made grilled chicken that had been marinated in 151, lime, and sriracha sauce, as well as hamburgers, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, etc. The best part of the night had to be dancing around the living room with the tiny human…or watching her amusement when all of the adults started playing on an exercise ball. Lol.

Hope everyone else had a great holiday weekend!

Happy Birthday to Me!

No, today is not my birthday. Monday was, but I wasn’t anywhere near a computer so I couldn’t blog about my absolutely amazing weekend!!!!!

Friday night, we went to see Jude Buckingham and Almost Kings. The performances were epic, as always, and Boze pulled me onstage during “Five Foot Hurricane.” Almost Kings did a few new songs (and premiered one over the club’s PA before their set) and let me just say that I already know I’m going to love the album. I didn’t get my usual post-show time with the guys because I had apparently partied a little too hard during…

Anyway, the following night, my friends threw me a little party at their house. We had breakfast for dinner–lemon poppy seed waffles, red velvet waffles, bacon, blackberry sauce, a tropical fruit compote, ham rolls, and a drink that consisted of watermelon and Malibu rum. My parents ate with us and stayed long enough to check out my gifts, then they went home and the rest of us watched lame horror movies until bedtime.

It was truly a fantastic weekend, filled with most of my favorite people, music, laughter, and love. I couldn’t have wished for a better celebration. 🙂

This Made My Heart Happy

So yeah, this is a bit random, but I totally just had a moment when I checked my email. I posted the pictures of me with Mark Tremonti and Eric Friedman to Twitter…and both men replied to my tweets!!!!!

I know Mark is actually responsible for his own account, and I figure Eric is too, which makes this even better, of course.

Just wanted to share my happiness with y’all. 🙂 I hope if you’re reading this that you are having an equally wonderful day!
